Jimmy Page Played Guitar on Brenda Lee's "Is It True?" in 1964

In 1964, Jimmy Page wasn’t famous. He was a session guitarist taking whatever work he could get. When Brenda Lee flew to London looking to sound contemporary, her producer Mickie Most hired Page to play on her latest single.

Lee was already a legend by then. She’d had genuine hits since the early 1950s. But the British Invasion was making her sound dated. The Beatles, the Stones, the Animals—they came from England with raw energy and blues-based sound that made American pop feel tired. Lee decided to adapt. She came to London to record.

Most assembled the session at Decca Studios in West Hampstead. Bobby Graham played drums, and the session was produced by Mickie Most at Decca’s number two studio. Page played guitar.
