Sometime I’ll tell y’all about the night I spent at a bar in Memphis when Jerry Lee played the piano and sang for 7-8 hrs with maybe 5 other patrons in attendance

I saw him at the Fillmore in San Francisco in the 1980s and his performance was electric. He was incredible — until you looked into his eyes (I was very close to the stage). They were ice cold, even while he was playing. It literally sent a shiver through me.

"The Killer"? I absolutely believe he was.

The comparison to Elvis or that possibility of being the next. Is interesting. They seemed to both move similarly through the world.

I always considered JLL as the Id for Elvis. Jerry didn’t have a filter… thank God.

I have an incredibly soft space in my heart for people who don’t have a filter. It’s just because I know that those people will not mince words and will always be honest, even if it hurts. That was sort of Jerry.. sort of.

Excellent if grim read. If you scroll a little faster, you can watch women's hairstyles change with solid accuracy. 🤣

And Mickey Gilley. They were cousins through their mothers.

I remember the Rolling Stone reporting on Shawn's death. It was sobering and chilling. One tidbit that I recall mentioned her body was taken to Brantley-Phillips's funeral home in Memphis for the private autopsy that Jerry Lee paid for. Yeah, they called him "the Killer" for good reason...
