We are crossing 500 Subscribers and I have opened the Vault Doors.
Introducing my premium masterclass in the dark, odd, rare, and sometimes horrifying history of country music. Plus, your immediate passport to our exclusive Pre-Semester Orientation.
SCHOOL IS IN SESSION
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We really did it. This week, our community is teetering on a major milestone: 500 subscribers.
When I first started this Substack, I hoped to find a few like-minded souls who cared about country music as much as I did. To see five hundred of you show up here—hungry for the true, unfiltered stories behind the songs and artists we love—is an incredible feeling. Thank you for reading, sharing, and building this space with me.
To celebrate hitting this milestone, I am officially flipping the switch. The paid tier is officially live.
Why the Truth Matters (And What Pledging Means)
Let’s be entirely honest from the jump: The truth will set you free. I fundamentally believe that saving country music doesn’t come from corporate rebrandings, safe industry plays, or radio formatting loops. It comes entirely from a deep, relentless knowledge of the past. It comes from knowing exactly where we’ve been, understanding the heavy tolls that it’s taken on the people who built it, and ensuring that the raw preservation of it all stays completely intact. The only way we protect this heritage is by giving the world a proper education on the absolute truth of it all.
But doing that takes a massive piece of a person’s life. Right now, I am playing 9 shows a week. Anyone who has ever stood under the stage lights or lived out of a suitcase knows what that kind of grind does to a person’s body and mind. Every single ounce of my “offtime” lately hasn’t been spent resting; it’s been spent buried under out-of-print biographies, dusty tracking session logs, and rare legal histories from my archive so I can distill that truth for you.
I want to be as transparent as possible about this: A paid membership is quite literally what saves the day for me. I’ve always been someone who is anti-kickstarter, anti-patreon, and anti-crowdfunding because I understand fully the harsh economy we live in. I’ve been a broke fan of many creatives’ personal works myself, and I haven’t always had the loose change to support them. Because of that, the core of what I write will always remain open so that everyone can benefit from these studies. You’ll still get the stories that are not heard.
But if you do choose to pledge, you make the wheels turn. Becoming a paid member is the engine that fuels the immense time and energy it takes to do this work. I honestly plan on digging into this master archive as if it is my absolute life calling—because it is.
When you join the paid course tier, we are going deep underneath the floorboards of roots music. Instead of a dry chronological grind, we are going to study this music through 12-Week Thematic Semesters skipping across the decades to map out the ghosts.
The Tiers: Choose Your Path
We are building something entirely different here. You can access these masterclass studies through three distinct tiers:
1. The Paid Tier: The Masterclass Curriculum — [$8/Month or $80/Year]
Designed to be an incredibly rich, immersive, and high-value educational experience for anyone who loves this music. (ANNUAL PLEDGERS ARE MAILED A STUDENT ID - please send me an email with your physical address attached so you get one!)
The Monday Masterclass Lecture: A long-form, deeply researched essay delivered straight to your inbox, taking you behind the curtain and untangling the myths of commercial country music.
The Wednesday “Liner Notes” Listening Lab: A masterclass in how to listen. I’ll walk you through exact tracking sessions, point out stellar musicianship, and give you the tools to hear the history yourself.
The Wednesday Self-Graded Test: Put your ears and knowledge to the work with our weekly curriculum test. Send me your answers and thoughts at zachariahmalachimusic@gmail.com or drop them in the mail to my P.O. Box to correspond directly!
The Friday Open Office Hours: A lively, premium community comment thread where you can debate the historical nuances, eras, and heavy hitters with me and your country music history peers.
2. The Coveted Founding Member Tier — [$250 Flat Rate, Annual]
Hard Limit: Exactly 25 Members at one time.
If the standard Paid Tier is a masterclass ticket, the Founding Member Tier is a seat on the tour bus with the artists. Permanently capped at 25 members. Once those 25 seats are claimed, the vault door closes. You get everything in the Paid Tier, plus direct, VIP access and real-world experiences:
Semester Curriculum Input: You will have a direct hand in shaping the coursework! Before every 12-week semester, you get a seat at the table to send me your specific historical interest recommendations and topic requests.
The Physical Mail Dispatch: I will sit down at my desk and mail you a handwritten, personal welcome letter directly to your physical mailbox - with a special gift, from yours truly.
Exclusive Vault Merch: For the Christmas season, you will be shipped an exclusive, premium Country Music Book of the Dead merchandise package—items designed solely for the members in this elite tier and never sold publicly.
The Nashville Machine Tour: When you visit Nashville, you COULD get the personal treatment. You and I can coordinate a time to meet, and I will personally host you on a private, guided tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. We’ll walk the halls together while I give you the real, unvarnished history behind the exhibits and artifacts. (Note: Scheduling required in advance, times may vary based on my touring/show schedule - LIMITED TO 4 per year, available on a first-come, first-served basis).
3. The Scholar Tier: The Ultimate Patronage — [$500 One-Time Payment] - ACCESS BY EMAIL ONLY
Hard Limit: Exactly 10 Positions. Indefinitely.
For those who want to cement their legacy as the ultimate underwriters of this educational mission, I am opening the Scholar Tier. Look at this like an unpaid Board of Directors position. This is the highest level of support: a one-time payment of $500 that I will manually configure in the settings to comp your entire membership for life. You get indefinite, permanent access to the complete curriculum, tests, community, and all physical perks of the Founding Member tier, forever.
Permanent Public Recognition: These 10 individuals will be permanently named right in the About section of this publication as the foundational sponsors and patrons of this research. Their commitment to the truth is etched in the masthead for as long as this site stands.
Keeping the Wheels Turning
I know what it’s like to love an artist’s work and not have the spare cash to support them, which is why the FREE tier will always be active and remain free for everyone.
—BUT if you DO have the means to upgrade—whether through the Paid Curriculum Tier, by claiming one of the elite 25 Founding Member seats, or by stepping up as one of the 10 permanent Scholars—you are the one keeping the wheels turning on the unvarnished truth. With any financial support at all, you gain access to this exclusive course.
Saving country music doesn’t come from corporate sanitization; it comes from knowing our past, honoring the tolls it’s taken, and keeping the truth alive.
Choose your path below and let’s get down to the roots.
Let’s go down to the roots.
